What is bar solder 50/50?

The bar solder 50/50 is a tin/lead alloy solder, that is consisted of 50% lead and 50% tin respectively. It's casted into bar form. It's one of the most widely used bar solder besides the bar solder 63/37 and bar solder 60/40. Cost wise it's cheaper than the other two types, but it can fulfill most of the functions of the other two types in most medium end applications. The solidus temperature of bar solder 50/50 is 360°F while liquidus temperature is 420°F.


What are the applications of bar solder 50/50?

  1. The bar solder 50/50 can be used for soldering of electrical components by dip soldering or wave soldering. Like soldering of PCB, THT, the dip soldering or wave soldering can help to solder the components quickly, it saves time and lower the soldering cost. The bar solder 50/50 is recommended for medium to high end applications. But it's not recommended to use this bar solder for joints subject to high stress or vibration in the cooling industry due to lack of sufficient elongation properties.

  2. The bar solder 50/50 is widely used for soldering of metals in Western countries. It can be used to join and filling in the joints or gaps when you're connecting two metal sheets. Typical applications would be: joining of metal roofing, metal flashing, metal gutters.The bar solder 50/50 can be used to join copper and most copper alloys, lead, nickel alloys and steel. Good bonding strength at economic cost.
